Scorpion Protective Coatings, Inc. is a manufacturer/wholesaler of high-build, high-abuse coatings and window film products. Scorpion operates mainly in the automotive sector: If you buy a new truck and get a spray-in bedliner, we supply the material for that. If you buy a new car and get your windows tinted - we are on the supply side of that as well! Scorpion is a family-owned business, started in 1996. The concept of the business was first established to provide a low-cost solution to the (just emerging) spray-in bedliner industry. Even though it was established in 1996, Scorpion was operated as a side business until 2006, when it truly became a business focus. It grew quickly from there, growing through the focus on the democratization of opportunity - providing the ultimate value for small business customers with low-barriers to entry and high value products. Scorpion has always paid bootstrapped its own growth, never taking any outside capital. Scorpion launched its window film line in 2011, creating a whole new area of growth for the company. Over the years, Scorpion has worked hard to constantly innovate and reinvent itself (and the products we offer to customers). Scorpion is unique in its ability to constantly roll with punches and continuously emerge as a stronger, more vibrant company. The company reads, reacts, incorporates (and discards) with the best of them. We may not have the money yet to make that big thing happen on a scale, but that does not dissuade us. Even after all these years, there are new, great ideas coming out and it still feels like it is just around the corner. The company is consistently profitable, but is also consistently investing, its people, its future. Owner Perspective (Clayton Tomasino, son of original founder, 76% Owner): One of my favorite things about this company is that we have all been together for a long time. My older brother works here, Nancy has been with us for over 30 years (dating back to other ventures), 3 people went to (a local) high school with me, my nieces husband works here, warehouse guys have been around for at least a decade. People leave and come back because it is a great place to work. Most everyone has been here 10+ years. We know each others families, the community - and we really are doing neat things here. We have really lived the American dream on a hill in Cloverdale, IN. I have a part of it, but so does everyone else here and that is what makes it fun! I will get into some of the innovations in other segments, but what really makes this group, this company special is the people and the teamwork. My favorite quote is You can accomplish anything in life, provided you dont mind who gets the credit (Truman) - I believe that exemplifies the ethos of the company.
