About Mostra Coffee, Inc

Mostra Coffee is a women, immigrant, minority, and disabled veteran owned business in San Diego, CA. Mostra is a specialty coffee roaster who owns, operates, and manages coffee cafe operations as well as wholesale and e-commerce operations. We started this company in 2013 as four Filipino-Americans inspired by our farming roots and immigrant journeys. Our mission is to impact millions of lives through our specialty coffee experience, fostering connections for our shared humanity. By championing Philippine Specialty Coffee and helping to bring it back to the world stage, we envisioned generational impact wherein the farmers children would be the beneficiary of our work. In 2009, 2 local women and best friends Beverly Magtanong and Jelynn Malone were volunteering to build homes for the poor in the Philippines. They realized that the best way to help build sustainable livelihoods for them, was to help farmers get paid fairly for their crops-which happened to be coffee. They sought the help from 2 other friends, Mike Arquines, and Sam Magtanong, and together started Mostra Coffee out of the garage. Their coffee would later earn them the most respected and coveted award, ROASTER OF THE YEAR by ROAST Magazine in 2020, a title given to only a handful of the best coffee roasters in the world. The name Mostra, the Italian word for exhibition or show, was chosen to reflect their performance backwards in opera, television & performing arts, culinary arts, and military service and illustrates a rich tapestry of talent and ambition. The four co-founders sought to not only make a difference in the world, but also to live out the essence of Mostra. An essence which encompasses the arts & music, but also a spirit that is as dynamic and inspiring as the worlds of culinary & sports. In 2024, it has grown to be the largest purchaser of coffee from the Philippines in the United States. Other highlights: -In 2020 Mostra Coffee was named by ROAST Magazine as 2020 MICRO-ROASTER OF THE YEAR, the biggest and most prestigious award in the specialty coffee industry. In 2022, Mostra Coffee took 1st Place in the United States Coffee Roasting Championships and represented the United States at the World Roasting Championships in Milan, Italy, earning 11th place-the best showing by the United States to date in international competition.
