About Kalogon

Founded by award-winning engineer and former SpaceX employee, Tim Balz, Kalogon transforms seated health through smart seating solutions designed to improve comfort and reduce fatigue for individuals who sit for long periods, such as wheelchair users, pilots, and drivers. Our clinically validated, patent-pending technology improves blood flow, addressing the critical issue of pressure injuries, which cause nearly 60,000 preventable deaths annually in the U.S. Kalogon is a venture backed business with a combination of angel investors, venture capital, and corporate venture capital. We stay ahead of our competition because we constantly push ourselves to develop new products and services the market has not seen. Our unique approach combines empathy-led research with rapid prototyping. We work directly with wheelchair users, clinicians, and senior living facilities on our medical products to develop solutions that truly address seated comfort and health. In our work with the US Air Force, the fact that we are able to show improvements each time we work with the team, quickly getting cushions quickly getting even informal human factors feedback and revising our prototypes, underscores the value of these core skills. In 2022, Kalogon launched Orbiter, a wheelchair cushion leveraging Advanced Pressure Management (APMS) technology, bridging the gap between clinical recommendations for weight shifts/pressure reliefs and real-world feasibility for individuals with mobility difficulties. This technology and its efficacy was covered in the Journal of Tissue Viability in March 2024. In April 2024 Kalogon launched Orbiter Med, combining the support of a custom cushion with our proprietary APMS system. Now with this Medicare-approved product, clinicians no longer need to choose between positioning and skin health for their patients. With $3.6M in seed funding, Kalogon has found product-market fit and is on a path to over $1M ARR in 2024 with our first products, Orbiter and Booster. Kalogon has potential in adjacent verticals, including automotive and aviation, where people sit for long periods. We completed a $1.25M Air Force SBIR contract, with follow-on awards, and closed deals for paid prototypes for Hyundai and a leading commercial aviation interiors company. Our rapid prototyping, empathy-led design, and rigorous clinical evaluation, combined with in-house manufacturing at our Melbourne, FL HQ, allow us to test, learn, and scale. Our talented team of 26 is passionate about helping everyone live an active, seated life.
