About GreenTechnologies, LLC

In 1999, Founder Dr. Amir Varshovi noticed biosolids, the organic byproduct of wastewater treatment, were rich in nutrients yet primarily disposed of through incineration and landfilling. With decades of experience in research and a PhD in soil and water sciences, Varshovi quickly set to work developing the first prototype of what is now GreenEdge slow-release fertilizer in his garage. With the legal expertise from COO and Co-Founder Ms. Marla Buchanan, a major milestone was achieved when GreenTechnologies, LLC was granted its first patent for converting organic waste into an enhanced-efficiency fertilizer. GreenTechnologies creates a sustainable solution to the ever-present problem of organic waste management and nutrient upcycling. For the past 25 years, GreenTechnologies has continued to innovate by researching and developing new processes for sustainable biobased fertilizer production. We are committed to environmental sustainability across our life-cycle starting from material sourcing to final application by the consumer. GreenTechnologies objective is to provide a sustainable alternative to quick-release and chemical-based fertilizers. Unlike most fertilizers on the market, our products recycle natural resources, allowing for vibrant growth without compromising our ecosystems. To achieve this mission, we focus our efforts on the local community in Florida. In 2001, the co-founders successfully negotiated with the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) wastewater treatment plant for the essential byproducts required for GreenEdge fertilizer manufacturing. Rather than incinerating sludge byproducts, which add toxic pollutants to the air, JEA converted the incinerators into machinery that creates the necessary biosolids for GreenEdge fertilizer, resulting in cleaner air in Jacksonville. We continue to use JEA feedstock to manufacture our fertilizer. We are also researching new sources of feedstocks, such as food and animal waste, to increase our positive impact on the environment. Our 25-acre manufacturing plant was opened in rural Clay County, FL in 2005, allowing us to expand our manufacturing operations. Our products and company efforts have been recognized by several government agencies and organizations. Dr. Varshovi was named the 2014 State of Florida Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. GreenTechnologies is part of Inc. 5000s 2014 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in Manufacturing, and received the Florida Water Environment Associations Award for Biosolids Residuals Program Excellence in both 2014 and 2016. GreenEdge fertilizer is a Certified Biobased Product, a selective certification awarded by the USDA. GreenTechnologies has also been awarded several SBIR grants to fund research and development on new fertilizer products. Our small team allows us to be agile and create sustainable solutions while preserving our financial longevity. We have a dedicated marketing and sales team, who bring GreenEdge across the globe. Approximately 75% of our products earn over a 50% gross profit margin while the other 25% earn over a 30% gross margin. Our strategy prioritizes selling our products with higher margins, but we offer other unique products to address all customer needs. Our business development team continuously seeks out new business ventures. Currently, we are exploring carbon credits, digital marketing strategies, and additional government grants.
